Teaching....
I just typed teaching into an online dictionary.... and the definition it came up with was 'to give instruction'
Now, I don't do much teaching at all, but the few bits and bobs I have done for the London Symphony Orchestra, I work for the London Violin Studio and for Aldeburgh Young Musicians, I have tried my best to live up to my firm belief that you shouldn't impart much knowledge yourself to the pupil, rather ask questions and guide their desires to achieve what they actually want to achieve, rather than churning out yet another carbon copy of yourself, into a world where indiviudalism is even harder to come across!
The basis on which I try and teach follows the analogy of "give a man a fish, feed him for a day; teach a man to fish, feed him for a lifetime"
This goes so far as to say, if you don't even tell a pupil what the problems are but ask them to find the answer and allowing them to guide their own minds, results come through their own journey and often they teach ME something about making sounds, or music! Check out this guy's throughts on teaching.... I think he has it pretty sorted on this one
If you're interested in having some lessons with me, send me a message or go directly to the London Violin Studio to find out more :)
