Prima Volta
Improvisation being pushed. I have been exposed to all sorts of various improvisors, but very few stick in my mind so wildly that I can't resist from telling you about them.... That man is David Dolan, in many ways, my musical mentor for the last, (well lets say) huge part of my life. He is amazing, check him out- anyway, he inspired me and set me up ready for this group called Prima Volta...
Prima Volta is an ensemble made up of primarily three musicians (with guests coming in for fun!). These musicians are Simon Gilliver (flute), Miguel Tantos Sevillano (trombone) and yours truly!
We are a classical improvisation group and improvise anything and everything from preludes and fugues in the style of Bach, rondos and minuets in the classical style, to sonatas in the romantic style and pretty much everything beyond that trying to push the limits of what we can do. Lately we've even been playing with Beatles songs, the ring tones that we can find on all of our up to date phones and blackberrys, and even trance and dance numbers. We even go as far as playing from a few notes given to us by the audience and creating whole works on that, and responding to a picture or image. Anything is possible with these guys and I simply adore working with them. We meet every Tuesday night and big big things are very very possible with these boys :) ..... Happy days....
